Geology Summer School...
My week in Durham was OK, although I felt out of my depth with the geology at times. This is my first science course and I'm having to learn everything from scratch - unlike the technology and computing courses that I've done in the past where everything seems to fall into place straight away. Also, some geologists seem to have a real passion for the subject, soaking up new information and remembering it all. Although I do have a keen interest in fossils I don't seem to share the real passion some seem to have. I found the assignment more difficult than I expected - we had been told all week that it would be easy!
Overall the week was interesting and well worth attending, but at times the pace of the field trips was a bit too fast for me to take it all in, and fully appreciate the geology. My favourite trip was the day we spent in Staithes, examining the Jurassic sediments and fossils, I also enjoyed the Shap granite quarry. I've put some photos of the field trips on my website. I drank too much and didn't do ant triathlon training, so I will have to make up for it from now on as my first race is only four Weeks away!
