Waiting to start
The first mailing of course material arrived on Wednesday, but I can't really get stuck into it until the home kit arrives at the beginning of February, as most of the first block requires the map sheets. The course looks really interesting and I think I've made the right choice. I've decided on my overall study plan for the next few years - next year I will do ST240 chemistry, the year after S330 Oceanography, and after that the MSc in science. I've started to put together a S260 web site for my geology course, as I find it a useful way to collate notes and Internet resources.

Geology - my first go at science.
I've finally decided on S260 Geology for this year, I registered today and I'm eagerly awaiting the microscope and collection of rocks and minerals in the home kit that we are loaned for the course. I'm a little apprehensive as this will be my first 'proper' science course, but it looks really interesting and I've ordered some books from Amazon so I can get some background before the course officially starts in the middle of February. I'm interested in fossils, particularly sharks teeth, and also the way they are formed. I'm hoping that my enthusiasm will make up for my lack of previous science knowledge.

Bill Larnach BSc (Hons) (Open), Dip Comp (Open)
After eight years of study I've finally finished my first degree - a distinction for U316 'The environmental web' gave me a 2.1 grade overall, which I'm really pleased with. I'm looking forward to my graduation ceremony which I've booked for May.

I can't decide what OU course to do next. I'm disappointed that I had to pull out of TT281 in December (the second of the web application certificate courses) because of other commitments, but I'm hoping to re-take the next presentation. I've considered other courses such as T209 to complete the diploma in I.T, or possibly S330 Oceanography, or maybe S260 Geology - I still have a few days to decide. My overall plan is to do a few science courses before moving on to a Masters degree, where I can get back to Internet research that I really enjoy.
