Diving Anchor Bay Cove - Malta 2004

Anchor Bay Cove is the film location of Popeye's village, where the 1980 musical version of 'Popeye' starring Robin Williams was filmed. A concrete pier was built for the camera equipment - this now serves as a giant stride entry point into the bay. The visibility is poor at the start of the dive, but soon clears to about 12m. The dive is shallow, 6 - 10m, but incorporates a partially submerged cave in the limestone cliffs. The cave is sealed from the shore, but you can surface and breath clean air because of the porous limestone. There's a lot of marine life on the dive including hermit crabs, moray eels, star fish and fire worms. On the way back to the pier you come across a large anchor and chain.
